With the networking world merging everything and anything into Internet Protocol (IP) for increased ease of use and management, it was only a matter of time until the Closed Circuit TeleVision (CCTV) industry caught on. Now with CCTV camera manufacturers able to balance, or even overcome, the picture quality vs cost issue, the demand for IP based security cameras has increased exponentially in the past couple years.

By utilizing PoE, fixed IP cameras can be installed throughout office buildings, in parking lots, at traffic intersections, and along highways without having to call in an electrician to wire power to camera locations. PoE enables existing power outlets within 100 meters of the equipment to be used and a minimum of Cat3 cable can be installed directly to the camera location. PoE offers similar advantages in the wireless networking world because most Wireless Access Points (WAPs) are PoE capable and are deployed at physically higher locations then most typical 120VAC outlets. continue »

Two important trends will influence manufacturers’ introduction of next generation VoIP phones and streaming video cameras: PoE (Power-Over-Ethernet), and Gigabit speeds. These newer technologies will allow lower cost and higher performance network devices. Media converters will also adapt. By incorporating these enabling technologies, media converters will allow networks, and the points at which we interface to them, to evolve.

As new devices are added to the edges of networks and beyond, companies will look for cost-saving installation methods. Power-over-Ethernet allows network-based devices to draw 48 VDC power from the same cable used to connect to the network. This low-voltage solution eliminates the need for costly electricians to run new high voltage AC circuits to remote device locations. By standardizing on PD (Powered Device) power conversion circuitry, device manufacturers can also reduce costs–and prices–for devices such as next generation VoIP phones and network cameras. continue »

Transition Systems started in 1999 as a regional distributor of networking products. Headquartered in Singapore, Transition Systems has offices across South East Asia (Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Brunei, Indonesia, Vietnam, Philippines) and South Asia (India). Their offices are comprised of both inside and outside sales teams, marketing, customer service, product management, and technical support to deliver their services & support to resellers. Though similar in names, Transition Networks and Transition Systems are two completely different entities. The former being a network equipment manufacturer, and the latter being a networking solutions distributor. By tapping into Transition Systems wide customer base and local relationships, Transition Networks is able to market its brand and awareness via their marketing programs, regional road shows, and technology update seminars. Within a narrow span of 2 years, customers in Asia have become quite aware of Transition Networks position as a market leader for fiber connectivity technology, as well as a provider of 1st class service for after-sales support.
