As a member of the Metro Ethernet Forum (MEF), Transition Networks is continuously monitoring the advancements of Carrier Ethernet and some of the associated advanced management capabilities being implemented by service providers. I was recently doing some research and found some useful information on the newly revamped MEF website. If you’re looking to get up to speed on Carrier Ethernet and its benefits, their site is a great place to start. Here is a sampling of what I found:
Carrier Ethernet in Action - Overview
Additionally, I came across a good article on the Lightwave website about Operation, Administration, and Maintenance (OAM) capabilities which are vital to Carrier Ethernet success. The article - OAM: Going beyond the standards to enable innovative Carrier Ethernet services - written by Umesh Kukreja of Atrica Inc. does a good job of highlighting how far OAM has come and also points out some gaps that need to be addressed.
