• Metro Ethernet Forum World Tour kicks off in New York: The Metro Ethernet Forum (MEF) kicked off their World Tour in September with their first event in New York. The event, which was cosponsored by Network World, touts the benefits of Carrier Ethernet. This recap highlighted the MEF’s message that Carrier Ethernet, with it’s global availability and ROI, offers a new level of simplicity for carriers and for businesses.

• Free Network Infrastructure Guide from ODVA: In my recent issue of the Industrial Ethernet Book (IEB), I read a quick snippet about a Network Infrastructure Guide for EtherNet/IP offered by ODVA. IEB describes the guide as offering an introduction to the required network infrastructure and gives users a framework for identifying the considerations that are most critical to their specific applications. ODVA is an organization that supports network technologies built on the Common Industrial Protocol (CIP™) — DeviceNet™, EtherNet/IP™ and CompoNet™.
